Roblox is one of the most popular games in the world with a player base that includes everyone from kids to adults. However, as well-made, as the game is, it isn’t immune to occasional bugs and glitches that can really hamper the user experience from time to time.
In this article, we’re talking about errors when starting Roblox, their causes and what you can do to fix the problem.
What causes these errors?
Roblox start errors can actually be triggered by a number of different reasons including but not limited to:
- Spotty internet connection.
- Server outages at Roblox.
- Overly aggressive antivirus.
- Corrupted or damaged game files.
- Use of cheat engines or similar programs that change system files.

How to fix them?
Here are 10 fixes you can try out.
Restart your router
Power cycling your network equipment is the fix to more issues than you can think. More often than not, connectivity issues can be caused by an underlying bug in your router and can be fixed by rebooting.
Check Roblox’s server status
Another thing you should do is check Roblox’s server status. If there’s a server outage at Roblox’s end, there’s not much you can do other than just wait for them to resolve the situation. You can check Roblox’s server status at their official status page or on third-party sites like DownDetector.
Check Firewall
Sometimes the Windows Firewall can get in the way of programs trying to access the internet, which can very well be the case here. Try temporarily disabling your firewall to see if Roblox starts working properly.

Disable antivirus
Overly aggressive third-party antivirus or antimalware programs can sometimes cause problems. In such cases, try temporarily disabling your antivirus to see if that makes a change.

Delete app data
Clearing out the app’s cache and files will force the program to re-download them and eliminate any corrupt files that may be causing this issue in the process.
Step 1: Open the Run prompt using Windows Key + R, type in %appdata% and hit enter.
Step 2: Delete the Roblox folder in the directory.
Restart the game and the error should be gone.
Port forwarding issues
If you’re trying to connect to a Roblox server, there’s a good chance that the game might use some ports to connect and communicate with the server. You’ll have to check with the server admin to find the required ports.
Now, while the steps for each router will vary depending on the make and model, here’s a general idea of what you need to do.
Step 1: Head to your router’s home page. This would generally be your default gateway. In my case, it’s 192.168.0.1
Step 2: Log in to the router settings and look for port forwarding settings. On my router, it’s under the Applications tab.
Step 3: Now, type in the port number for the server and select the corresponding protocol, including your machine’s local IP Address. Save these settings, and you’re good to go.
Again, depending upon your router, you might have to take a different approach towards opening ports to allow apps to communicate over the internet.
Use command prompt to flush DNS
Misconfigured DNS settings can cause a lot of headaches, including Roblox start errors. Here’s how you can reset them.
Step 1: Press Windows key + R and type in cmd, and hit enter.
Step 2: Type in ipconfig /flushdns to reset DNS settings to default.
If the above command doesn’t help, try entering these commands in the Command Prompt one at a time.
netsh winsock reset
netsh int ip resetIf you suspect an issue with your router’s DHCP assignment, use these commands to release your old IP and request a new one.
ipconfig /release
ipconfig /renewIf this doesn’t work, use the following commands to reset your network stack.
ipconfig/flushdns
nbtstat -R
nbtstat -RR
netsh int ip reset C:\resetlog.txt
netsh winsock resetThis should fix any issues with the game.
Disable Windows proxy settings
Misconfigured proxies on your Windows machine can cause a lot of programs that require network interactivity to stop working as expected. Check to see that such settings are disabled on your PC, here’s how.
Step 1: Press Windows Key + R to open the Run prompt. Type inetcpl.cpl and press enter.
Step 2: Head over to the Connections tab. After that, click LAN settings.
Step 3: Make sure that the Use a proxy server for your LAN setting under the Proxy server heading and click OK.
Now restart your computer and try launching the game.
Uninstall/reinstall Roblox
Try removing Roblox and installing it again to see if that resolves your issue.
Step 1: Press the Windows key + X and click on Apps and Features.
Step 2: Find Roblox in the list and click Uninstall.
Now reinstall the program from the Microsoft Store and check if that resolves the error in Roblox.
Use the UWP app
Last but not least, you can try using the Roblox UWP app. You’ll find it on the Microsoft Store in Windows and you should be able to get better performance out of the app compared to your browser. Not to mention any issues pertaining to corrupt files will also be resolved.
