Android games will soon be available on Windows as Google has launched a limited beta rollout in Hong Kong, South Korea and Taiwan. After teasing the app last month, Google has rolled out the Google Play Games app in beta.
People in these three countries can sign-up for the waitlist for Google Play Games beta, and those who receive the invite and meet minimum PC requirements will be allowed to participate.
Google Play Games app will allow people to download and play selected mobile games that have been optimised for mouse and keyboard input for Windows PC. The progress for these games will sync across devices. The app is currently not available for Mac.
According to Google, the app’s official release will vary depending on region, and a wider rollout is expected later in 2022 and 2023.
The following are the minimum system requirements to participate in Google Play Games beta rollout and play Android games on PC.
- Windows 10 (v2004)
- 20GB free storage on a SSD
- 8GB RAM
- Gaming GPU
- CPU with eight logical cores
- Windows admin account
- Hardware virtualisation disabled
The program might also ask that Hypervisor or HAXM be enabled during the installation.
Those who don’t meet these requirements won’t be invited to participate in the beta rollout. An invite, however, doesn’t mean a guaranteed spot. Following the invite, participants will have to run a PC check (link will be emailed), and if the system passes it, the participant will be allowed to install Google Play Games.
Note that Lenovo Thinkpads, AMD devices and devices with less than 1GB VRAM aren’t compatible.
