Valve’s Steam is much more than a gaming platform where you can download games, apps and other tools for your PC; it is also a community of gamers and if you play online often with friends, Steam also serves as a platform where you can have conversations with friends and fellow gamers as well as join or create groups to have group chats.
However, people don’t always want to have a chat and if you want to be left alone or just want to talk to specific people on Steam, here is how you can go offline on Steam app for PC and smartphone.

How to appear offline on Steam app for PC?
Launch the Steam app on your PC and follow any of the methods mentioned below to appear offline on Steam. If you’re looking to go offline on the Steam app for smartphones, scroll to the end of the article.
Method 1: Appear offline on Steam’s chat window on PC
On the Steam chat window, click on your name to the top-left and from the dropdown menu either select Invisible or Offline.
If you select Invisible, your Steam profile will appear offline but you’ll still get notifications for messages with whosoever you’re chatting. However, if you select Offline, your profile will appear offline and you won’t receive any chat notifications.

Method 2: Appear offline via the Steam menu
From the toolbar at the top-left, select Friends and then click on either Invisible or Offline.
Alternatively, you can also click on the Steam option at the top-left of the screen and then select Go Offline from the dropdown menu list.

How to appear offline on Steam app for smartphone?
Launch the Steam app on your Android or iOS device and follow the steps mentioned below.
- Tap on the three horizontal bars (hamburger) menu option at the top-left of the display..
- Then scroll down on the menu to the left and tap on Settings. From the dropdown list, tap on Go Offline.
- You can go back to your profile page by tapping on the icon alongside your name at the top of the menu and you’ll find Currently Offline written there (refer to the screenshot above).
