Apple’s annual Worldwide Developer Conference (WWDC) is set to begin on June 5. Generally, the event is used to show off new details and features in upcoming versions of iOS, iPadOS, macOS and watchOS in addition to its tvOS but it wouldn’t be surprising to see new Mac hardware or even a VR headset announced at the event.
WWDC 2023 will run from June 5 to June 9 in an online format but there will be an in-person event on the first day of the conference at Apple Park. With anticipation for soon-to-be-announced Apple gadgets and feature improvements high, Apple’s vice president of worldwide developer relations, Susan Prescott notes that this WWDC is going to be Apple’s “biggest and most exciting yet”.
Realistically speaking, we can see iOS 17, iPadOS17, tvOS 17, watchOS 10 and macOS 14 announced at the event. Hardware announcements could include an M2 refresh of the Mac Pro and a 15-inch Macbook Air. As mentioned before there is notable speculation that Apple might finally unveil its long-rumoured AR/VR headset, with some thinking the event image is teasing headset lenses. However, it could just be the rainbow arches from the Apple campus.
Other than that Apple will provide online sessions and labs allowing developers to learn more about upcoming features and software. There’s also the traditional Swift Student Challenge and the company is accepting applications until April 19.
As for the keynote on June 5, current Apple Developer Program members, Apple Entrepreneur Camp alumni, prior Swift Student Challenge winners and current Apple Developer Enterprise Program members can submit a request to attend. Invitations will be allocated by a “random selection process” and are non-transferrable, with users to be notified by April 5.
