The Associated Press is launching an NFT marketplace to sell award-winning images clicked by photojournalists over the past 175 years. The first set of collection will be released on January 31.

AP’s NFT marketplace will be powered by blockchain tech provider Xooa and allow collectors to purchase photos from their archives, including those that have won a Pulitzer.

Each of the NFT offered by AP will include the original metadata, including time, date, location, equipment and technical settings used to click the image.

The NFT collections, minted on the Ethereum-compatible Polygon blockchain, will range from war images to that of space and climate, among several other categories.

“For 175 years, AP’s photographers have recorded the world’s biggest stories through gripping and poignant images that continue to resonate today. With Xooa’s technology, we are proud to offer these tokenized pieces to a fast-growing global audience of photography NFT collectors,” said Dwayne Desaulniers, AP director of blockchain and data licensing.

The prices for NFTs will vary in the collection, and the proceeds will be re-invested in the Associated Press’ newsrooms.

AP’s NFT marketplace will support purchases using credit cards and crypto wallets, including Metamask, with Fortmatic, Binance, and Coinbase to be added soon.

“Xooa is proud to work with The Associated Press to launch AP’s NFT marketplace. In this marketplace deployment, emphasis has been placed on accessibility for all types of collectors to empower them to join a community that shares their interest in stunning photography,” said Zach Danker-Feldman, Xooa’s head of marketplaces.
