How to check battery health on MacBook?

If you’ve started noticing that your Macbook’s battery doesn’t last as much as it used to earlier, it’s most probably because your battery life is deteriorating, which is common. However, if you wish to know how much of the original charge can your battery hold, Apple has a pretty neat feature called battery health that can help users decide if it’s time for a battery replacement yet or not by checking the status of their Macbook’s battery. 

Similar to any remote batteries, laptop batteries also wear out with time and usage. Like other gadgets, Macbook’s battery has limited charge cycles. When the battery’s power is used entirely, it means one charge cycle is complete.

Most modern MacBooks have approximately between 300-1000 charge cycles. However, the exact value might vary depending on different models of Macbook. You can check the charge cycle count of your laptop’s model at Apple support.

Once you know the maximum cycle count of your Mac’s battery, you can find out its the current battery health in two ways listed below. In case, your battery’s condition is critical, you will need to replace the battery for better MacBook performance.

For a quick battery health check of your MacBook, follow the steps below to know if you need battery replacement.

Step 1: While holding the Option key on your keyboard, click on the battery icon on the status bar near the top-right corner of the screen.

Step 2: You can now see your laptop’s battery condition listed as one of the following: normal, replace soon, replace now or service battery.

A detailed report of MacBook’s battery health via System Information

Step 1: While holding the Option key on your keyboard, click on Apple icon on the status bar; at the top-left corner of the screen.

Step 2: Choose System Information from the drop-down menu.

Step 3: Select Power from the list of options on the left-hand side.

Step 4: You can now see the charge and battery health information under the model information.
