What is this?

The content://com.android.browser.home is a syntax to switch the default homepage setting for the default browser on your Android. 

Most Android phones come with some sort of web browser built-in, even if it’s just Chrome. These default browsers also have default homepages which can be changed with the help of the aforementioned syntax. 

While it may look like a link, it’s actually divided into certain parts. The first bit, ‘content://’ allows the user to receive the content and set appropriate flags, next up, com.browser.android is the package name for the default Android browser on your phone and lastly, the home/ bit sets the default browser to the homepage. 

You can further customise the syntax to change the settings of your choice by adding a keyword after home/. For example, adding bookmarks after home/ will let you add bookmarks to your browser. You can use the syntax with other keywords like

• content://come.android.browser.home/index
• content://come.android.browser.home/set
• content://come.android.browser.home/most_visit

Changing the default homepage on Chrome

While this is the default URL set in your default browser (generally Google Chrome), you can change it by simply changing your browser home page to something else. Here’s how. 

To change the Chrome homepage on Android, follow the steps given below.

• Open Chrome and then tap on the three-dot button at the top right.
• From the drop-down, tap Settings.
• Scroll down and then tap on Homepage under Basics.
• Enable the toggle and then enter the page address by tapping the Open this page option. All the changes are saved automatically, and you don’t need to worry if you accidentally close the browser after making the changes.
