Cross-posting is a way to post content across different social media platforms simultaneously. While some are switching from Facebook to Instagram, many still use Facebook religiously to express their thoughts or share content with their peers. Cross-posting must have come to your mind if you are one of them.

Instagram has a feature of sharing a post to Facebook with a single click for some time, and now Facebook also allows you to cross-post to Instagram directly but with a few restrictions.

In this article, we guide you through the process of cross-posting between Facebook and Instagram — both for personal and business use. So, let’s explore how you can do so and what the restrictions involved.

Cross-posting from Facebook to Instagram account

You can cross-post from Facebook to Instagram simultaneously, but this feature is only available for business accounts. Therefore, you cannot post from your personal Facebook account to your Instagram account. Additionally, this Facebook feature is currently available for Facebook websites only and not for mobile apps.

Facebook still doesn’t allow to cross-post stories to Instagram accounts and supports only posts with a single image in cross-posting.

Linking Facebook and Instagram accounts

We’ll first need to link both to cross-post from Facebook to Instagram. Login to your Facebook account and follow the below steps to continue connecting the two accounts.

Step 1: Go to the Facebook page you want to link on your PC. Click on Settings in the top right corner.

Step 2: Click on Instagram from the left sidebar.

Step 3: Select Connect Account to link your Instagram account to your Facebook business page.

Step 4: Enter the credentials for your Instagram account. Then click on the Log In button. This will link both accounts.

How to post from Facebook to Instagram?

Once you have successfully linked both accounts, follow the steps below to cross-post from Facebook to Instagram.

Step 1: Click on More on the top bar and select Publishing Tools from the dropdown menu.

Step 2: Click the Create Post option on the left side, just below the search bar under Published Posts.

Step 3: Create a post with at least one photo; this will automatically enable the Instagram sharing option. Check the button next to Instagram and then click on Share Now.

Your post will go on the Facebook profile as well as the Instagram profile. To check it live, log on to your Instagram account separately and check your profile.

If you would like to edit the post, you can do that by clicking on the three-dot menu in the top right corner and selecting Edit from the dropdown menu.

Also, Facebook will not support cross-posting if your Instagram account has enabled two-factor authentication. To make it work, disable the same from your Instagram account first.

Cross-posting from Instagram to Facebook

Cross-posting on Instagram is not limited to business pages only. You can also cross-post from your Instagram handle to your Facebook personal profile.

How to cross-post from Instagram to a Facebook business page?

To cross-post from your IG account to your Facebook business page, you need to be the admin of the business page on Facebook.

Open the Instagram app and follow the steps below to share posts on Instagram and Facebook simultaneously.

Open your Instagram profile by tapping on the profile icon at the bottom-right corner of the display. Then tap on the three horizontal lines (hamburger) menu icon in the top-right corner.
Select Settings.
Then select Account.
Tap on linked accounts (refer to the screenshot below).
Enter your Facebook credentials if you’ve not already logged in.
To share updates to the business page you manage, go to Share to and select the page where you want to cross-post.
Slide the toggle to the right to share your story on a Facebook page. It will automatically share all your stories to your Facebook page as well.
Similarly, to automatically share your posts to a Facebook page, enable the share your posts option.

How to cross-post from Instagram to a Facebook personal profile?

To cross-post from Instagram account to your personal Facebook account, open the Instagram app and follow the steps below.

Open your Instagram profile by tapping on the profile icon at the bottom-right corner of the display. Then tap on the three horizontal lines (hamburger) menu icon in the top-right corner.
Select Settings.
Then select Account.
Tap on linked accounts (refer to the screenshot below).
Enter your Facebook credentials if you’re not already logged into the account on the device.
To share updates to your personal Facebook account, go to Share to and select the Facebook profile.
To share your story toFacebook page, slide the toggle to the right. It will automatically share all your stories to your Facebook profile as well.
Similarly, enable the share your posts option to share your posts to your Facebook profile automatically.

You can also opt to keep the share story and post option disabled in the settings and individually choose to share a story or post while updating. You can do this by enabling it while making a post or story to cross-post to a Facebook business page or a personal account.
