Exynos 7904 vs Snapdragon 636

Optimising equipment for in-house hardware is something that every company would want to do as it provides an advantage. One company that can do this is Samsung. They have been developing their hardware for a fair amount of time now, and Exynos is their line of SOC’s, which they use in their smartphones.

The flagship Exynos chip has shown that it can hold its own against the competition. Here we compare the new mid-range chipset, the Exynos 7904, against Qualcomm Snapdragon 636. We will get to see if it can produce pleasing results like its higher-end sibling.

The Exynos 7904 debuted on the Galaxy M20, which is available for INR 10,990. The Snapdragon 636 can be found on popular phones like the Redmi Note 5 Pro, which retails at INR 16,000.

Exynos 7904  vs Snapdragon 636

The Exynos 7904 is an octa-core chip fabricated using the 14nm process, just like the Snapdragon 636. This process promises better efficiency and performance.

Samsung’s chip has an eight-core set up with two 1.8GHz Cortex-A73 chips and six 1.6Ghz Cortex-A53 chips, whereas Qualcomm’s chip uses eight custom Kryo 260 cores at up to 1.8 GHz. It is paired with the Mali-G71 MP2, and the Snapdragon uses the Adreno 509.

On paper, the Exynos 7904 seems underpowered when compared to the SD 636.

In terms of quality of life features, both the chipsets try to outdo each other, but these features do not make a difference at this price point since the hardware can only provide adequate support.

The Exynos 7904 delivers advanced camera features such as optical zoom and bokeh effect thru multi-camera(three) solutions. It is equipped with an advanced image signal processor, which is said to enable these features.

On the other hand, Qualcomm uses its Spectra 160 Camera ISP, which supports up to 24MP single or dual 16MP cameras for a camera experience unparalleled in its price segment.

Both the chips offer Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Bluetooth 5.0, 600Mbps Download and 150Mbps Upload speeds.
