Facebook News, an on-site tool to check out news on the social media platform, will be expanding to India, Brazil, UK, Germany and France in the next six months to a year.
The tool was launched in USA last year and showcases news coverage from major publications including Bloomberg, The Atlantic, The New Yorker, Forbes, The Washington Post, Buzzfeed News, The Wall Street Journal, among several others.
According to Facebook, their News tool has helped the publishers drive more traffic to their websites.
“We’ve found over 95% of the traffic Facebook news delivers to publishers is incremental to the traffic they already get from News Feed. Based on this progress, we are accelerating our plans to expand internationally,” says Campbell Brown, VP, Global News Partnerships, in the announcement.
News publishers are paid for their stories that appear in Facebook News. At the time of launch, Facebook News featured segments such as Today’s Stories, Topic Sections and Personalisation.
“Consumer habits and news inventory vary by country, so we’ll work closely with news partners in each country to tailor the experience and test ways to deliver a valuable experience for people while also honoring publishers’ business model.”
Earlier this month, Facebook rolled out Reels on Instagram, which is available in 50 countries globally. The new TikTok-clone tool can be accessed from within the Instagram app and allow users to record 15-second-long videos, which can then be edited using the in-app tools and effects.
