CSGO is an extremely tactical game that’s played in very narrow margins. Apart from your skill level, your FPS and more importantly your ping can wreak havoc on your performances.

Use Ethernet
If you’re playing on WiFi, and have a lot of devices on your network or are sitting away from the router, you have a good chance of facing packet drops and lag.
As good as WiFi has become, a wired connection from your router to your PC will always be the best way to ensure that you make the most out of your connection.
CSGO network settings
The first thing you should do if you’re facing network issues in CSGO is to make sure you have the right network settings in place.
Before proceeding, make sure you’ve enabled the developer console in CSGO’s game settings.
Here are a few settings suggested by the community to have the best experience when playing CSGO. You can just type them in the console one by one.
- cl_lagcompensation 1
- cl_interp 0
- cl_updaterate 128
- cl_cmdrate 128
- cl_predict 1
- cl_predictweapons 1
- cl_interpolate 1
- cl_interp_ratio 2
Note that for the cl_updaterate and cl_cmdrate your rate value is determined by your network speed. Here are the approximate rate values for different speeds.
- 1 Mbps: rate 125000
- 2 Mbps: rate 250000
- 3 Mbps: rate 375000
- 4 Mbps: rate 500000
- 5 Mbps: rate 625000
- 6 Mbps: rate 750000
Another thing to keep in mind is when you’re playing CSGO, or any game online for that matter your upload speeds matter just as much your download speeds as the communication has to be equally quick both ways.
Flush your DNS
Flushing out your DNS can often fix issues with your internet being slow or not working at all. Here’s how you can fix these issues.
Step 1: Press Windows key + R and type in cmd and hit enter.
Step 2: Type in ipconfig /flushdns to reset DNS settings to default.

Kill unwanted process
Sometimes an application may be running in the background and sucking up that valuable bandwidth you need to be able to play CSGO properly. Here’s how you can find and kill such processes.
Step 1: Open the Task Manager by pressing Ctrl + Alt+ Delete and head over to the Performance tab.
Step 2: Click on Open Resource Monitor at the bottom.
Step 3: Head over to the Network tab in the Resource Monitor.
Step 4: Find unnecessary processes that are eating up your bandwidth and end them by right-clicking on a process and selecting End Process.
Upgrade your Internet connection
If none of the steps above work, you’re most probably going to have to upgrade your connection to get better speeds and bandwidth.
You can also lodge a complaint with your ISP and ask them to look into server redirection as that could be the issue behind these lags.
