SMS banking

This option is great for people looking for a fast and convenient way to check their balance while out and about. However, before using this method, you’ll have to sign up and register your mobile number.

  • Send a message with ‘REGISTER’ to 77380-62873 from the mobile number linked to your account.
  • Once registered, send a message with ‘BALANCE’ to the same number, 77380-62873, to receive your current balance.

Missed call banking

Another convenient option, missed call banking allows you to get information about your account with a simple missed call.

  • Register your mobile number for the service by giving a missed call to 84240-54994 from your registered mobile number.
  • Then, to check your balance, give a missed call to 84240-46556. The number will not connect, but the system; it will register your request and send you your balance via SMS.

Phone banking

For those who prefer an interactive voice system, phone banking offers a user-friendly option.

  • Dial the toll-free number 155299 from your registered mobile number.
  • Choose your preferred language and follow the Interactive Voice Response System (IVRS) instructions to check your balance.

Internet banking

If you prefer online access, internet banking provides a comprehensive view of your account.

  • Visit the official website of India Post.
  • Create an account 
  • User ID and password will be generated.
  • Log in to the DoP e-Banking Portal and enter your User ID and password 
  • Enter the registered mobile number, an OTP will be sent to the number
  • Enter OTP to verify
  • Choose an account option and one can check the balance in your account.

Mobile banking app

For the ultimate convenience, download the India Post Payments Bank (IPPB) mobile app. Here are the steps:

  • Download the IPPB Mobile App 
  • Enter the account number and customer ID 
  • An OTP will be generated on the bank account linked mobile number for verification
  • Enter the OTP and get registered  
  • Set the MPIN by login to the app. One can then check the account balance on the app.


Launched in 2022, the e-passbook offers a digital alternative to the traditional paper passbook. To avail the benefits of this facility, one has to follow the following steps:

  • Visit the post official website of India post.
  • Click on the Post Office Savings Bank option
  • Click on the e-passbook option.
  • Login with mobile number and check the balance.
