How to close your Chime account?

Chime is a financial technology company with a mission to make banking more easy and accessible. The company doesn’t charge any overdraft or monthly service fees or have a minimum customer balance requirement.

Currently, Chime has a user base north of 20 million, of which the majority are female users. However, sometimes, you may want to close your Chime account.

In this article, we’ll explain how to do this easily and in detail.


Before you close the account

Here are some things that you should keep in mind before closing the Chime account:

  • Transfer your funds: All your funds will be lost when you close the account. So, first, transfer your funds to another account, PayPal or Cash App.
  • Unlink external accounts: If you have linked any external account, such as PaPal or Cash App, to your Chime account, you should unlink these. Navigate to Settings > Linked Accounts > Unlink.
  • Save or download important documents: If you have some important documents saved on the Chime app, you should download them first in case you lose them.

Closing your Chime account

Now that we have understood what things we should keep in mind before closing the Chime account, let us head to the steps:

If you are closing the account via the Chime app, follow the steps given below:

  • Open the Chime app and then tap on Settings.
  • Tap on Personal Info.
  • Tap on Close Account and then follow the on-screen instructions.

Once you are done, your Chime account will be closed within five business days.


Closing Chime account via customer support

Another way to close your Chime account is by talking to the customer representative on Chime support. You can call them at (844) 244-6363.

After closing your account?

If there is any amount left in your closed Chime account, the company will mail you a check for the amount within 30 business days.

If you don’t receive the money, you can contact customer support at the number we have mentioned above.

In conclusion, closing your Chime account is relatively easy, and you can do this easily either from the Chime app or via customer service. But remember to take out any money in the account, unlink all the external accounts, and download all the essential documents before continuing with the closing process.
