How to create a Microsoft account?

There is a high chance that you already have a Microsoft account if you have used any of the Microsoft services like One Drive, Microsoft Office, Outlook, Xbox, among others. Also, if you have set up a new PC or laptop, the chances are that you might have already created a new Microsoft account.

If you have an account, go to Microsoft Account sign up page and then click on Sign In to log in. If not, then follow the steps given below to create a new Microsoft Account.

Create a Microsoft Account

Step 1: Go to signup.live.com, or you can go to Microsoft Account sign up page and then click on Create a Microsoft Account.

Step 2: On the main window, you can see a few options and a blank space. Type your email address in the empty space, or if you want to sign in with your mobile number, you can select the Use a phone number instead option. Alternatively, if you want a new email address, specifically on Outlook or Hotmail, click on Get a new email address. In the screenshot below, I have chosen to enter my email address instead. You can opt for any of the three options. Step 3: In the next window, select the password that you want for this account. Make sure that your password is strong and has a combination of letters, symbols and numbers. Here is a Microsoft Password Guidance[PDF] to help you create a strong password. When you are done, click on Next.

Step 4: Microsoft will send a code to the email address that you have previously mentioned. Open the email and then copy the code in the space provided to you. After that, tap on Next. Also, you can opt-out of the additional tips and offers that Microsoft will give you. Step 5: Type in the code and then click Next. That’s it. Where can you use the Microsoft account?

You can now use the Microsoft account for a wide range of Microsoft products on various platforms including Windows, Android and iOS.

You can search Microsoft on any of the available online stores and can download the app from there. Then, sign in with your Microsoft account to unlock the full potential of the app.

Apart from that, you can use Microsoft Office package which includes Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Outlook alongwith OneNote and OneDrive.
