How to reboot your Chromecast?

With little to no user interface running on it, Chromecast is one of the easiest streaming devices to use. From streaming music to running presentations on a bigger screen, Chromecast can manage to cast anything at the click of a button.

Although Chromecast is really powerful, like any other piece of technology, it too can face issues while streaming media. The minimalistic user interface running on it makes debugging the problem a little too tedious.

So, what do you do if the audio is lagging while you stream your favourite TV shows or you can’t control your Chromecast with your smartphone? Well, the answer is simple, you just reboot your Chromecast by following either of the methods below.

Rebooting your Chromecast using Google Home

Although the user interface on the Chromecast is minimalistic, the Google Home app running on your smartphone is quite powerful and can help you solve any problem you face while casting media.

To reboot your Chromecast using the Google home app on your smartphone, connect your smartphone to the same WiFi network as your Chromecast and log into your Google account. Once you have this basic setup you are just steps away from rebooting the Chromecast

  • Open the Google Home app on your device
  • Select the device you want to reboot
  • Click on the Settings icon in the top right corner
  • Click on the three dots menu icon at the top-right corner
  • Click on Reboot in the drop-down menu

Reboot Chromecast by disconnecting it from the power supply

In most cases, you will be able to reboot your Chromecast using Google Home, but if your Chromecast is unresponsive and you cannot control it using the app, you can unplug the device from the power source and connect it again to reboot.

Removing the Chromecast from the HDMI port does not reboot the device, and you have to unplug it from the power source to initiate a reboot.

If your Chromecast is not working properly even after you perform a reboot, a factory reset on the Chromecast should help.
