Google Chrome is one of the most widely used web browsers, with a majority of the market share. Currently, Chrome captures about 63.41% of the world’s web browser market, which is significantly more than its nearest competitor, Safari, which only has a 15.02% share.

Apart from that, Chrome also supports several extensions, which make user interaction more lively and hassle-free. Opening many tabs on Google Chrome eats up the RAM, and thus it is advisable to close those tabs which are taking up a lot of CPU memory. Using too many extensions also causes the PC to slow down.

Detecting and killing Tabs which are using too much RAM

Chrome has its task manager just like you have on your PC. Task managers provide a valuable set of information about the various background and foreground processes to the user.

To detect which tabs are using more memory, and to kill them, follow the instructions given below.

Click on the three-dot bar on the upper right corner of the screen.
Go to More tools > Task Manager.

In the Task Manager, click on the Memory Footprint option on the top horizontal menu. This will sort the processes according to the CPU usage.
Select the process which is taking up more RAM.
Finally, select the End Process button.

Furthermore, as you can see clearly from the image above, extensions also take up RAM. You can remove some of them to speed up the PC further.
