Step 2: Select Device and then Keyboard.

Step 3: Change the keyboard shortcuts as you desire. For example, click Search to open the drop-down menu and then select Caps Lock to change the functionality.

Why don’t Chromebooks have a dedicated Caps Lock key?

There are a few reasons why there is no Caps Lock key on a Chromebook:

  • Chromebooks are designed for simplicity: Chromebooks are meant to be easy to use and having dedicated keys will make the keyboard cluttered.
  • Caps Lock is not as commonly used: Chromebooks are basically designed to use for light social media and internet usage. People do not generally use Caps Lock on social media and instant messaging platforms and prefer to type in lowercase.
  • Chromebooks provide an alternative to Caps Lock key: It is not that no Caps Lock will hamper your ability to type in uppercase. You can use shortcuts like Alt + Search to use Caps Lock on Chromebook.
