If you have recently received a Vanilla gift card as a present or are about to present one to someone, you might be wondering about its importance and purpose. A Vanilla gift card is a mere prepaid card that holds a certain amount of balance that can be used in place of or in combination with a debit or credit card. The amount of cash expenditure via this card remains limited to the amount that has been pre-filled. This allows Vanilla gift cards to be used both as a gift and as a way to check spending limits.

In this article, we will be discussing how you can use a Vanilla gift card on Amazon if you ever come across one.

Vanilla to Amazon

Vanilla gift cards are typically Visa gift cards that can work anywhere Visa is applicable. If you want to use a Vanilla Visa Gift Card, then you’ll initially face the following issues:

  • The card will work only after a 24-hour wait period of purchase.
  • The card has to be activated in order to be used. If not activated at the time of purchase, you can do so by calling the number given on the back of the card.
  • The card also requires an activation fee.

After overcoming these tiny obstacles, you can now use your Vanilla gift card on Amazon by adding it as a new method of payment, thus giving it a status of a debit or a credit card. You can do this either on your phone or PC. In addition to the prior method, there is another way that a Vanilla gift card can be used on Amazon, both methods are given as follows:

Adding a new form of payment

You can add your Vanilla gift card as a new form of payment to your Amazon account by following the steps given below:

  • Open the Amazon app and tap on the Menu option from the lower right corner.
  • Now tap on Account.
  • Scroll down and under Amazon Pay, find and tap on Manage payment options. Then tap on Manage Bank Accounts.

Here, you can add the Vanilla gift card under the guise of a debit or a credit card. Enter the card number, expiration date, and name given on the gift card accurately in the card details on the Amazon page and save this method of payment.

A card for a card

At times, you may not be able to purchase a gift for the exact amount of cash left in your gift card, which might result in only a small value remaining in the card and is deemed useless as you may not be able to purchase something for the exact remaining amount. Since debit and credit cards are taken as the sole form of payment and you cannot combine your purchase with a gift card while using them.

To avoid such problems, you can purchase an Amazon Gift Card using your Vanilla gift card. Similarly, you can also redeem the exact amount in your Vanilla gift card into your Amazon balance which in other words is your Amazon Gift Cards balance.
