Earlier this month, Google launched its latest mobile OS release, Android 9 Pie, and HTC has announced which of its devices will be receiving the Android 9 Pie update.
The Android Pie update was released for a few devices that included Google’s very own line of smartphones and Andy Rubin’s Essential at the time of the launch with over-the-air updates.

The delay in sending updates to the compatible devices occurs because when Google first releases the update, it does so with everything customised for its own Pixel devices.
Every company has to then customise the code of the update for Pixel devices according to the needs of their own devices and user interface.
Companies like Essential make use of stock Android and thus were able to send out an over-the-air update for its Essential PH-1 device soon after Google released it.

HTC devices receiving Android 9 Pie
The following HTC devices are going to be receiving the Android 9 update soon (the company hasn’t announced the official release dates yet):

- HTC U11+
- HTC U11
- HTC U11 life (Android One)

Google is also working with a number of other partners to launch or upgrade their devices to Android 9 Pie by the end of this year. But in truth, you might have to wait until Q1 or Q2 of 2019 to receive the official update in most of the cases.
