Instagram is one of the most popular social media platforms around the moment. The media-centric platform is run primarily from its smartphone app, although you can access it from a web browser, except with limited functionality.

Like everything else tech, Instagram also faces its fair share of bugs and glitches. Reinstalling the app is one of the simplest fixes that help you get around a lot of these issues, but a lot of people are reserved about this.

In this article, we’re looking at what happens to your account when you delete the Instagram app from your phone and any other questions you might have.

What happens if I delete the Instagram app?

In short, nothing. Your account is unrelated to whether you have the app on your phone or not. You could create an Instagram account from a web browser and use it there without ever installing the app on your phone.

Of course, the functionality you get will be hindered, but your account will stay active. Deleting the app does not affect your account in any way, shape or form.

Your profile will still be publicly visible, including your published posts and story highlights. People will be able to see your profile, follow, unfollow, like your posts, comment on them and even send you direct messages. The only difference is that you’ll have no idea that anything is happening because, well, you don’t have the app on your phone.

The only thing you’ll be losing out on is the drafts that you have saved on your device. Just about everything on Instagram, from your messages to your saved or archived posts, resides in the cloud. However, your draft posts are saved locally on your device until you upload them.

Lastly, there’s no way your friends or followers will be able to tell that you’ve explicitly uninstalled the Instagram app from your device. They might notice that you’ve gone inactive, but there’s no way to tell from the platform itself whether you have the app on your phone or not.
