Motorola has unveiled the much-talked-about refresh of its iconic Moto Razr folding phones, under the same moniker of Razr, and these are the sleekiest folding display phones you might see this year.
Reminiscent of the older design, the refreshed Motorola Razr phone also has two displays. The secondary display, being called ‘quick view display’ by the company, will primarily allow users to play music, take selfies and view notifications.
The device, however, lacks the 3.5mm headphone jack but is shipping the razr earbuds alongwith the device that connect to its USB Type-C slot at the bottom chin.
Similar to its releases over the past year, several of which feature Android One, Motorola promises to deliver a clutter-free OS experience with the Razr phone.
The Motorola Razr will launch at $1499 in USA in January 2020. Its price and launch date for India are still to be announced, and we’ll update this space as and when they are.
However, given the premium price tag — which pitches it in the ballpark of the foldable devices launched earlier this year — and with mid-range features like the Snapdragon 710 SoC, it’s going to be interesting as to how many people really opt for this phone because if they do, it’ll be purely for the nostalgia.
The renewed Razr has a splash-proof with water-resistant nano-coating. There is a hinge at the middle of the display, which folds to reveal the secondary display. The display is almost bezel-less with a small notch at the top but there is a big fat chin — same as the one in its predecessor from 2004 — that houses the fingerprint sensor at the front and speakers and USB Type-C connector for charging at the bottom.
The device weighs 205 grams and its dimensions are as follows:
- Unfolded: 72 x 172 x 6.9mm
- Folded: 72 x 94 x 14mm
Memory and Storage
The Razr features 128GB of internal storage and 6GB of RAM.
Motorola Razr’s primary camera houses a 16MP (f/1.7; EIS) lens with dual-LED flash. When folded, the same camera can be used via the secondary display to capture selfies. The secondary or the front camera is a 5MP (f/2.0) unit, which is supported by a screen flash.
The device only has a 2510mAh battery pack with 15W fast charging support. However, given the thin design of the Razr phone when unfolded, this doesn’t seem as surprising. But it might not be enough to power the 6.2-inch display for long.
