On the second day of its annual tech event, Oppo Inno day, Oppo has announced its foldable flagship, the Oppo Find N. Pre-orders have already started and the device goes on sale in China on December 23 starting at CNY7,699 ($1,210).
The device folds in a book form, much like Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold devices however it does have a rather sleek aspect ratio meaning a much more smartphone-like silhouette when closed.
Oppo Find N’s hinge is rated for about 200,000 folds, which is about the same as the Galaxy Z fold series as well. Additionally, the screen can be positioned anywhere between 50 to 120 degrees. The device is different to the rollable Oppo X 2021 — an official concept phone that featured a scrolling display powered by motors.
Oppo Find N price and features: Foldable tech finally getting cheap?
Oppo has managed to undercut its most aggressively priced rival, the Mi Mix Fold from Xiaomi which launched for around CNY 9,999 in China this April.
Pre-orders for the Oppo N are already open and the phone goes on sale in China on December 23. The 8GB variant costs CNY 7,699 while the 12GB variant starts at CNY 8,999.
The device comes with a 7.1-inch main AMOLED display with optimised software that allows for split-screen multitasking and better gestures. The display is also 120Hz LTPO which can scale down the refresh rate to as much as 1Hz to conserve battery.
The inner display goes as high as 1792 x 1920p, has a 180Hz touch sampling rate and is 800 nits at its maximum brightness. The outer display is a much simpler 5.49-inch 60Hz display running at 1972 x 988 with up to 240Hz touch sampling rate.
On the camera front you get three rear cameras:
- 50 MP Sony IMX766 f/1.8 84-degree with Optical Image Stablisation
- 16MP f/2.2 123-degree ultrawide
- 13MP f/2.4 45-degree telephoto
Both the internal and external display gets an identical 32MP f/2.4 81-degree punch-hole camera making it a total of five cameras on the device.
SoC, Memory and Storage
The phone is powered by the Snapdragon 888 and comes in two different variants with 8GB LPDDR5 RAM and 256GB storage or 12GB LPDDR5 RAM and 512GB storage. The storage on both variants is UFS3.1 which is about as fast as it gets when it comes to smartphone storage.
Battery and more
There’s a 4500 mAh battery which supports 33W SuperVOOC fast charging. The company claims that you go from zero to 55% in 30 minutes and to 100% in 70 minutes. Apart from this the phone also supports 15W AIRVOOC wireless charging and is compatible with standard Qi charging as well. Lastly, there’s 10W reverse wireless charging, a side-mounted power button that doubles up as a fingerprint scanner and a dual speaker setup with support for Dolby Atmos.
