What causes the PS4 SU-42481-9 error?
According to Sony, users might encounter this error when the system software update has failed. While the failure could be because of several reasons, the reason you might be seeing this specific error could have to do something with a corrupted update file.
Sony suggests rerunning the update over a wired connection or updating through PS4’s Safe Mode.
How to fix the PS4 SU-42481-9 error?
While the error might seem daunting at first, here are four ways you can fix PS4 SU-42481-9 error.
Perform a power cycle on your console
Power cycling your console is a proven way of resolving a lot of issues, including any issues you might face with updating your console.
Doing so also clears the cache on your console, which can also eliminate a bunch of seemingly random issues, including the PS4 error SU-42481-9.

Try the update over a wired connection
If you were using WiFi to update your console, reboot it and update it over an ethernet connection. Wired connections not only give you the best possible speeds and stability but also provide maximum protection against connection drops and other network issues that can plague your update process.

Initialise PS4
Another proven way of resolving numerous issues on the PS4 is to initialise, or factory reset your console. Doing so reinstalls the last software version you had on your console and can get it running pretty much hassle-free.
Do keep in mind that you’ll have to use PS4’s Safe Mode for this. All you need to do is boot into the console’s Safe Mode and select the Initialise PS4 option.

Update your PS4’s system software
If the above three methods fail to resolve the SU-42481-9 error get your PS4 up and running, you’re going to have to take charge and update your console’s software version yourself. There are two ways you can do this.
- Using the Internet
- Manually updating using a software file.
