The PS5 controller is flashing blue light and it is unable to connect, it is one of the most common issues the players face with the PS5 controller, this might happen in the middle of the game with no save points.

This article discusses the causes of the PS5 controller blinking blue light and seven fixes to help you resolve the issue.

What causes the blinking blue light issue in the PS5 controller?

Here are a few possible causes of the blinking blue light issue in the PS5 controller:

  • The device is not compatible.
  • Using an outdated version of the PS5 system software.
  • Damaged cable.

How to fix the blinking blue light issue in the PS5 controller?

Here are seven fixes to help you resolve the blinking blue light issue in the PS5 controller:

Restart the console

Restarting the console will solve the issue if it is being caused by some normal technical issues, as it will reset everything when you restart the console. To restart the console press the power button until it beeps twice, then press the power button again to start it again.

Hard reset the console

This step is similar to the restarting of the console, but it is slightly different and efficient in fixing the technical errors, so if the above method didn’t work for you then you can try this method. To hard reset or power cycle your PS5 console, follow the steps below:

  • Press and hold the power button on the console until the power indicator light stops flashing.
  • Remove the power cable from the socket.
  • Wait for at least 30-60 seconds.
  • Plug the power cable back and turn the console back on.

Reset the controller

Resetting the controller might resolve the blinking blue light issue on the controller, and it is a good method if this issue occurred while you were playing the game and don’t want to lose your progress in the game by restarting the console. To reset the controller follow the steps below:

  • The reset button is on the back of the controller.
  • Put a Paper clip or sim ejector in the hole.
  • Press and hold it for 5-7 seconds to reset your controller.

Update PS5 system software

It is possible that you might be using the outdated version of the PS5 system software and that is causing the blinking blue light issue in the controller.

There are two ways to update the PS5 system software:

Method 1

You can update the system software by using the system settings and the internet. Follow the steps below to know how to check and update through settings:

  • Click on the Settings icon on the Home screen.
  • Then click on System > System Software > System Software Update & Settings > Update System Software > Update Using Internet.
  • Click Update and then Ok to update your PS5 console.

Method 2

You can also update the system software manually with a USB drive. You will need a PC, an internet connection and a FAT 32 USB drive with at least 460MB of space.

  • On your PC plug the FAT 32 USB drive and create a folder named PS5 in the USB drive.
  • Create another folder named UPDATE in the PS5 folder.
  • Visit the PS5 system software update page and then select the Update system software section.
  • Download the update file and save it in the UPDATE folder.
  • Save the file as PS5UPDATE.PUP.
  • Plug the USB drive containing the file into your PS5 console.
  • Start the PS5 console in Safe Mode and select Update System Software> Update from USB Storage Device> OK.

Turn off nearby Bluetooth devices

This method will help you only if you are trying to connect the controller to your controller via Bluetooth, disable Bluetooth of devices like TV, speaker and other devices near your console and controller as the signals from those devices might interfere with the connectivity between the console and the controller.

Use a different cable to connect controller to console

It might be possible that the cable you are using to connect your controller to the console might be damaged, so you can use a new cable to connect your controller to the console.

Switch your WIFI network

Some of the users facing this issue noticed that this issue started when they switched their WIFI network and when they switched it back to their old WIFI network it resolved the issue. So if you switched your WIFI network recently then you can try switching it back to your old WIFI network to resolve the issue.
