Fixing Roblox won’t update on Windows error

You can try out the following six fixes to solve the unable to update Roblox error on a Windows device.

Restart your PC

Restarting your PC is one of the first things you should do when resolving such errors. Rebooting machines can fix seemingly random errors, including any connectivity or update issues that you might be facing.

Clear the browser cache

Corrupt files in your cache or otherwise can cause this error as well. Clear them out to see if you can get Chrome to work.

Step 1: Type in chrome://settings/clearBrowserData in your browser’s address bar and hit Enter.

Step 2: Select the cache and cookies options and make sure the Time range is set to All time. Click on the Clear now button to clear out all the data.

Check the firewall

Sometimes the Windows Firewall can get in the way of programs trying to access the internet, which can very well be the case here. Try temporarily disabling your firewall to see if Internet Explorer starts working properly.

Run the Windows App Troubleshooter

Windows has a bunch of really useful troubleshooters that can fix several issues with your PC. If the problem is with the app itself, this is sure to fix the error.

Step 1: Press the Windows key and search for Troubleshooters. Click the corresponding search result.

Step 2: Click on Additional Troubleshooters.

Step 3: Scroll down and run the Windows Apps Troubleshooter.

Restart and try again.

Clear out the app cache

Clearing out the app’s cache and files will force the program to re-download them and eliminate any corrupt files that may be causing this issue in the process.

Step 1: Open the Run prompt using Windows Key + R, type in %appdata% and hit enter.

Step 2: Delete the Roblox folder in the directory.

Reinstall the game

If resetting didn’t help, try removing Roblox and installing it again to see if that resolves your issue.

Step 1: Press Windows key + X and click on Apps and Features.

Step 2: Find Roblox in the list and click Uninstall.

Now reinstall the program from the Microsoft Store and check if that resolves the error.

Fixing Roblox won’t update on Mac error

If you’re on a Mac, try out these solutions to fix the Roblox won’t update on Mac error.

Check your OS compatibility

First up, check if Roblox is compatible with your macOS version. The Roblox client only works on macOS 10.10 Yosemite or above and Roblox Studio only works on macOS 10.11 (El Capitan) or above.

Disable your VPN

Geo-restrictions often get in the way of software experiences. If you’re playing Roblox with a VPN connection, chances are the VPN itself is interfering with Roblox’s update system and there’s a region conflict in which your IP address is placed due to the VPN and the update Roblox is sending you. Try disabling the VPN to see if Roblox works.

Delete the Roblox cache

Once again, deleting old and corrupt cache files can kickstart Roblox.

Step 1: Click Go in your toolbar at the top and select Go to Folder.

Step 2: Enter the following path and click Go.

Step 3: Delete everything present in the folder.

Now try restarting Roblox again and it should work just fine.

Use your web browser

If you can’t update the Roblox app, try using the web version instead. You can get the full Roblox experience from your web browser as well which works as a good alternative to the app in case it malfunctions.

Use the dock

Several users have reported that launching the web version of Roblox straight from the dock seems to have fixed the issue. So if you’re having trouble updating Roblox try pinning it on the dock and running it from there.

Reinstall Roblox

If nothing else works, your best bet is to reinstall Roblox from scratch. This involves removing the program from your Mac, deleting any cached files as mentioned above and reinstalling the fresh, updated version from the Roblox website.
