How to rotate the screen in Windows 7?

When we talk about the most convenient and popular gadgets in the current context, smartphones and tablets unarguably take the top spot because they are simple to use and offer features similar to what once was exclusive to clunky PCs.

One of the age-old features that trickled down to smartphones is screen rotation. While smartphones and tablets leverage hardware like a gyroscope to assess when a person wants to rotate the screen, most computers still need the users to use keyboard shortcuts or built-in software features to rotate the screen.

Screen rotation allows us to spin the screen in portrait and landscape mode, making it easy to read files or watch videos in your preferred orientation.

Now if you’re running the older Windows 7 and aren’t able to figure out how to rotate the screen, here is a guide to help you do just that using two methods explained below.

How to rotate screen in Windows 7 using a keyboard shortcut?

Keyboard shortcuts are the simplest methods to work around in Windows PC without going the full length to complete a task. One such keyboard shortcut is for rotating the screen in Windows 7, which can turn the display to landscape or portrait mode and even upside-down.

To achieve rotation orientation through the keyboard, you have to press Ctrl+Alt key alongwith any arrow key to spin the screen 90 degrees, 180 degrees or 270 degrees.

The moment you press the aforementioned shortcut keys, the screen will turn black for a while and reappear rotated. To turn the display into normal mode, push Ctrl+Alt+Up arrow key.

How to rotate screen in Windows 7 using the Control Panel?

Following is a relatively extensive guide when compared to the one above, which will not only help you rotate the primary display of your PC, but also allow you to rotate the second screen alongwith or rotate only one of the two screens in Windows 7.

Step 1: Click on Start Menu at the bottom-left corner of the toolbar and then click on the Control Panel button from the menu. 

Step 2: As the Control Panel window opens, find and click on Personalization option from the list.

You can also open Personalization window by right-clicking on the windows display screen and select the said option from the Context menu.

Step 3: Now press the Display button from the menu at the left side of the tab.

Step 4: Next, click on Adjust resolution from the preview menu on the left corner.

Step 5: This will take you to the display appearance configuration setup. You can try out various features from here like screen resolution change or add multiple display projector screen and further tweaks accordingly. 

To rotate the screen, press the push-down button besides Orientation and choose the option that best suits you and finally hit the Apply button to spin the screen.
