Consoles have come a long way from being the clunky boxes they once were. Modern consoles can run games almost as good as PCs can and with major consoles like the Playstation having a bunch of exclusive titles, they make a very strong case.

Hardcore PC gamers often miss out on console exclusive because well, they’re PC gamers. However, that might not be as bad as you think. 

The good thing about PCs is that you can just about anything with them. There are emulators for just about every popular console that you can find out and download in a matter of minutes. What’s better is that most if not all of these emulators are open source and free to use.

What is RPCS3?

Much like the very popular PCSX2, RPCS3 is a PS3 emulator available for Windows, Linux and BSD. The project is open source, truly multi-platform and is written in C++ with speed and optimisation in mind. 

The emulator has a pretty big and active community around it, which you can join by joining the project’s Discord channel. The emulator launched back in 2012 and the first successful boots revolved around small homebrew projects and hardware tests.

Soon after its launch, the emulator had garnered attention and interest from both the open-source community and Playstation enthusiasts. As of right now, the project is mainly developed by two lead developers, Nekotekina and kd-11 backed by an ever-increasing team of Github contributors and support from numerous Patreons.

RPCS3 System requirements

RPCS3 suggests the following recommended and minimum system requirements on its website.

• Operating System: Windows, Linux, BSD (64 bit).
• Processor: Intel 4-core with HT or 6-cores and up (Haswell and above) or AMD 6-core with SMT or 8-cores and up (Ryzen only).
• GPU: A Modern AMD or NVIDIA Vulkan compatible GPU.
• RAM: 8GB or more.
• Storage: Depends on game size requirements.

• Operating System: Windows, Linux, BSD (64 bit).
• Processor: Any 64-bit capable processor.
• GPU: Any OpenGL 4.3 compatible GPU or greater.
• RAM: 4GB
