TVs have come a long way from the CRT boxes they used to be in the past. Modern TVs often come with smart features or even Android installed and have a lot more media capabilities including streaming and gaming features that can really help elevate the customer experience.
In this article, we’re taking a look at Sony TVs not turning on, the reasons behind it and what you can do to fix the problem.
What causes the issue?
There are a couple of reasons why you might not be able to switch on your TV. Some common causes include:
- Power issues.
- Remote batteries might be low or dead.

How to fix this?
Sony TVs are capable of indicating any problems by different coloured LED indications. Based on the colour you’re seeing, one of these fixes might work for you.
Red LED indication
Red blinking lights on a Sony TV are usually indicative of a system error. The blinking pattern is generally eight blinks in a row with a small gap in between before the cycle repeats again.
The easiest way to fix this is to just do a power reset on your TV. You can do so by unplugging your TV from the wall and leaving it like that for a couple of minutes. Then plug your TV back in again and switch it on to see if it works fine.
Another reason for a blinking red light could be overheating. Clear out any vents on the TV to ensure dust isn’t blocking the airflow and make sure there’s enough clearance behind and under the TV for heat to dissipate.
Orange LED indication
Orange or amber lights on your TV can be indicative of your TV being in sleep mode or on an on/off timer. Sleep timers often turn TVs off after a particular time or do the opposite. Some newer models also use an orange blinking light to indicate your TV is updated. Do not switch off your TV or disconnect it from the wall outlet during such an operation as it can pause the update in between and leave your device bricked.

Green LED indication
Green LEDs generally signal power issues with Sony TVs. Doing a three-minute power reset as mentioned above can help fix this issue.
Check the remote batteries
If you’re using your remote to turn your TV on, chances are there’s a problem with the remote itself that’s causing it to not send the required signals to the TV. This is most commonly caused by weak or dead batteries or the remote being out of range. Try swapping the batteries on your remote and using it in close proximity to the TV to see if that solves your problem.
Contact customer support
If nothing else works, contacting customer support is the best way you can fix your TV. A qualified technician will be able to point out the exact cause of the issue and fix it for you.
