Spectrum app not working: Quick Fix

Spectrum is a rather varied service provider that gives its customers access to the internet and streaming services among other things. The service provider also has its own line of devices and software, including a Spectrum app.

In this article, we’re taking a look at issues with the Spectrum app, why they happen, and what you can do to fix them. 

Why does this happen?

Issues in the Spectrum app can happen due to a number of different reasons. Some of the most common causes include:

  • The device doesn’t meet the minimum requirements.
  • Internet connectivity issues.
  • Location services aren’t working.
  • Outdated app version.

How to fix this?

Here are seven fixes you can try out. 

Restart the router

One of the first things you should do in these situations is restarting your router. Restarting internet devices can fix seemingly random issues that cause connectivity problems, including this one. Just turn off your router (and modem) and wait for at least 30 seconds before turning it back on again.

Restart your device

The Spectrum app is available on Xbox, Roku, Samsung Smart TVs, Apple TV and Android as well as iOS smartphones. Regardless of the device you use, restarting it can help resolve errors like this and other seemingly random issues that might be hampering user experience. 

Check the minimum requirements

Another possible reason why the Spectrum app might not work as expected is that your device doesn’t meet the minimum requirements. Based on what you’re using, you need to meet the following requirements. 

  • Xbox: Functional Xbox One or Series X | S.
  • Roku: Functional third-gen Roku or higher. 
  • Samsung Smart TV: Samsung Smart TVs from 2012 onwards are supported. 
  • Apple TV: Functional fourth-gen Apple TV or higher. Apple TV 4K is also supported. 
  • Smartphone: An Android device running Android 5.0 or higher or an Apple device running iOS 12 or higher. 

Enable location services

Spectrum channels can vary based on the region you’re in and some channels are restricted to specific regions. In order to serve you the allowed content, the Spectrum app uses your smartphone’s location services to know where you are in the world. 

If the location services on your phone are disabled or if the Spectrum app doesn’t have the required permissions to access them, the app can throw a number of errors or might even cease to function. Try enabling location services or giving the Spectrum app permission to access them to see if that helps.

Check for outages

Another thing you should keep an eye out for is regional outages. Check the Spectrum outage page to see if the services in your area aren’t working and if not, you can chat with Spectrum support to know how to resolve the issue. 

Factory reset the router

Most routers have a reset button at the back which will reset the router to its default settings. If you’ve misconfigured some settings on your router or have been impacted by a bug or virus, resetting your router can fix these issues. Do remember that you’ll have to reconfigure the router with the credentials given by your ISP. 

Reach out to Spectrum support

If all else fails, your best bet to fix the Spectrum app not working issue is to just get on a call with Spectrum support and have them fix the issue for you. Spectrum’s customer support agents will be able to pinpoint the exact issue you’re facing and hopefully fix them without much hassle.
