Can’t login to Spotify, something went wrong error: Quick Fix

Spotify is one of the most popular music streaming services on the planet. However, sheer popularity doesn’t guarantee flawless performance, and Spotify isn’t immune to occasional bugs, glitches and outages.

In this article, we’re looking at logging in issues with Spotify and giving you seven fixes to solve the problem.

Disable your VPN

Login issues can often happen when Spotify can’t get through your firewall. If you’re using a VPN or Proxy, that could be blocking Spotify’s connection to its servers. Try disabling any active VPNs or proxies and run Spotify again to see if that solves your problem.

Log out of everywhere

Another somewhat common fix that has worked for many people is simply going over to the Spotify website and logging out of all devices. After that, you can log back in and start playing without interruptions.

Step 1: Head over to the Account Review page on Spotify and log into your account.

Step 2: Scroll down and click on Log out option.

Now log in again to your Spotify app, and the ‘something went wrong’ error should be fixed.

Clear your browser’s data

If you’re using the Spotify web player, corrupt files in your cache or otherwise can cause this error. Clear them out to see if you can get the ‘something went wrong’ error fixed.

Step 1: Type in chrome://settings/clearBrowserData in your browser’s address bar and hit Enter.

Step 2: Select the cache and cookies options and ensure the Time range is set to All time. Click on the Clear now button to clear out all the data.

Now try opening the Spotify web player again, and the Spotify web player should work just fine.

Update Spotify

Whether you’re on Windows, macOS, Android or iPhone, if Spotify is experiencing some issues, a fix is already in the works and will be pushed soon. Check if you have any updates available for the app and if you do, install them right away.

Reinstall the application

Completly reinstalling Spotify from scratch can also help circumvent the error. Here’s how.

Step 1: Press Windows key + X to bring up the Quick Access menu and click on Apps and Features.

Step 2: Find Spotify in the list and click the Uninstall button to remove the app.

Step 3: Now press the Windows key + R to open the Run prompt. Type %appdata% and press enter.

Step 4: Delete the Spotify folder in the directory.

Now restart your PC and try reinstalling the Spotify app from the Microsoft Store. Log in again, and the error should’ve been resolved.

On a macOS device, follow these steps.

Step 1: Open the Finder menu and click Go.

Step 2: Head over to Library, followed by Caches.

Step 3: Find and delete the com.spotify.client folder.

Step 4: Now head over to Application Support.

Step 5: Find and delete Spotify.

Now try reinstalling the program to see if the ‘something went wrong’ error on Spotify is resolved.

Clear the cache

Clearing the Spotify app’s cache can also help freshen things up and potentially fix the issue.

  • Open your phone’s settings and head over to Apps.
  • Tap Show all apps.
  • Find Spotify in the list. Tap it to proceed.
  • Tap Storage and cache.
  • Tap the Clear storage and Clear cache buttons.

Now reopen the Spotify app and try logging in again.

Check your family plan address

It’s a rather strange bug, but if you’re on a family plan and your billing address isn’t the same as the rest of the family members, you can have issues logging into Spotify. Check your account settings to ensure you have the same billing address as the family plan, and try logging in again.
