How to stop Spotify from opening on startup?

While Spotify is prominently used as a smartphone app for Android and iOS, users who work on Windows or Mac systems also sync the online music platform to the big screens via its desktop app.

However, not everyone needs Spotify to jump up on the screen and start running as soon as their machine boots up, especially if it’s getting older and slower.

For those of your who want to stop it but can’t figure out how to, here is a three-step guide to help you stop Spotify from opening on startup.

Stop Spotify from launching on startup

Launch your Spotify client and follow the steps mentioned below to stop it from opening as your PC boots.

Step 1: Click on the downward-facing arrow icon to the right of your Spotify username near the top-right of the window. Then, from the dropdown menu list, click on Settings.

Step 2: On the next page, scroll down to the bottom and click on Show Advanced Settings button, under Autoplay heading, to expand the Settings page further.

Step 3: Scroll down and click on the downward-facing arrow icon beside Open Spotify automatically after you log into the computer, under the Startup and Window Behaviour heading. From the dropdown list, choose No.

You can also choose to open Spotify in a minimised window via the same dropdown options above. Your changes will be automatically saved. To ensure that, go back to your home page and follow the same steps above to check whether your selection was saved.
