The camera’s in smartphones have seen unprecedented advances in the past decade and have become the most used feature by the consumers, owing to the growing ease of sharing media across the internet. As much fun it’s to click photos for sharing with friends and family as well as your followers on social networks, the camera sound can get irritating especially if you’re taking quite a few shots frequently.
While there is no way to turn off the camera sound via the settings directly, below we’ve explained three methods that’ll turn off the camera sounds on your iPhone or iPad, without any third-party app.
#1 Activate Live Photos mode
Enabling Live Photos mode on your iPhone or iPad’s camera will turn off the camera sound as the device will be using the microphone to record an audio clip to go with the photo, which means the phone’s speakers are turned off momentarily.
To turn off the camera sound on the iPhone, go to your camera screen and tap on the Live Photos mode option at the centre of the toolbar options at the top of the screen. Once the Live mode is activated, you’ll see a yellow Live label on your camera screen. Now when you click a photo, the shutter sound will be switched off. How to keep Live Photos mode always enabled?
To ensure that Live Photos mode stays enabled whenever you open the camera, you’ll need to go your iPhone or iPad’s settings and follow the steps mentioned below.
- Scroll down and tap on the Camera option.
- On the next page, tap on Preserve Settings option at the top.
- On the next page, tap on the toggle button beside Live Photo (refer to the screenshot above).
Now whenever you open the camera app on your iPhone, the Live Photo mode will be enabled by default and the camera sounds will be turned off. However, it’s important to note that your camera will be recording sounds when Live Photos are clicked.
#2 Turn down the volume
Another quick way to lower or turn off the camera sound on the iPhone and iPad is to turn down the volume of your device either via the volume rockers or using the Control Centre. As is the case with the ringer slider, turning the device’s volume down all the way will also mute the notifications and calls. Also read: Apple AirPods (2nd Gen) vs Samsung Galaxy Buds+
#3 Toggle the ringer slider
One of the quickest ways to turn off the camera sound on the iPhone is to toggle the mute switch on the left side of your iPhone to turn off the ringer. This will mute any sound, including incoming notifications and calls — also vibrations, depending on your sound settings — but will also turn off the camera sound. You can toggle the switch back to turn on your phone’s ringer. Also read: How to delete emails on iPhone? Single, multiple and all
