With Instagram and Facebook both being owned by Meta, there’s a lot of content quickly becoming common between the two platforms, including reels.
In this article, we’re going over a few methods you can use to turn off Reels on Facebook.

Removing Reels from Facebook
Unfortunately, there’s no way for you to disable Reels from Facebook. However, there are several workarounds you can use.
Use an older version of Facebook
This method is as simple as deleting the Facebook app from your phone and installing an older version using an APK file. You can find different versions of Facebook APK files scattered across the internet. However, be careful when downloading APKs from a third-party website, as these can contain malware that can infect your device.
Turn off Autoplay for Videos on Facebook
This is as close as you can to disable reels on Facebook without downgrading the app version. Here’s how.
- Open Facebook and tap the hamburger menu icon in the top right.
- Scroll down and tap Settings & Privacy.
- Tap Settings.
- Under Preferences, tap Media.
- Under Autoplay, tap Never Autoplay Videos.
Now videos won’t play unless you interact with them.

Disable auto-updates for Facebook
Disabling automatic updates for Facebook will stop any additional reel functionality from rolling into your app. Do keep in mind that this method isn’t sustainable as, at some point, you’ll be forced to update the app.
- Open the Play Store and search for Facebook.
- Tap the three vertical dots in the top right.
- Make sure auto-updates are disabled.
Use a third-party app
While we don’t recommend doing so, using a third-party app with Facebook can give you more control over the platform than the Facebook official app does. This can include better control over how reels show up in your timeline.
Use Facebook in a browser
Finally, if nothing works, you can try and use Facebook in a browser. Reels aren’t supported for web browsers yet, and you can use this to your advantage to get rid of reels on Facebook.
Unfortunately, reels and short videos are supported by browsers. Mozilla is one of them 🙁
