Twitter is testing Ads in replies; Tweet authors might reap rewards

People using Twitter will soon start seeing ads in the middle of tweet conversations as the company has started testing ads on iOS and Android globally.

At the beginning of the test, ads will appear after the first, third or eighth reply to a tweet, according to Bruce Falck, revenue product lead at Twitter.

Twitter currently shows a generous number of advertisements in the home feed and explore tab, including the Trending section. In a bid to expand ad placement offering on the platform, Twitter will experiment with this ad format over the coming months.

The company will be testing different ad frequencies, layouts and contextual ad placements.

Falck also says that this move not only opens more avenues for advertisers but will also allow Twitter to explore the possibility of rewarding tweet authors and creators via this format.

Twitter will run the test to understand how these ad placements will impact people and conversations globally and figure out if there’s something they’d want to make permanent.

Earlier this month, Twitter announced that ad-free experience would move to Twitter Blue as they’re shutting down their recent acquisition, Scroll, a subscription service that allowed people to browse partner websites ad-free.

While currently, Twitter Blue is only available in Australia and Canada, the announcement of Scroll shutting down indicates that Twitter will start offering their premium subscription in more countries within the next few weeks.
