UPS is one of the most popular shipping companies in the world providing worldwide deliveries from anywhere to anywhere on the planet. However, with such an expansive network, tracking packages and providing that information to the customer is an important part of the process.
In this article, we’re talking about your UPS tracking number not working, the reasons behind it and what you can do to fix the problem.
What causes this error?
The error can be triggered by a number of reasons including but not limited to the following
- Internet connectivity issues.
- Incorrect tracking number.
- UPS’ online service is facing issues.

How to fix this?
Here are five fixes you can try out.
Check your internet
You need a stable internet connection to be able to access the UPS website and check your package’s tracking status. Check to see if your device has an active internet connection. If you’re connected to a WiFi network, ensure you have enough signal strength and speed. If you’re on mobile data, check to make sure that you’ve got good network coverage and that it’s actually enabled.
Check your tracking number
UPS tracking numbers appear in the following formats:
- 1Z9999999999999999
- 999999999999
- T9999999999
- 999999999
If the tracking number you’re entering isn’t in the aforementioned format, try checking if you’re entering the correct number and that it’s actually valid. You might’ve entered the incorrect tracking number or the seller might’ve made a mistake.
Check UPS service status
If the UPS service itself is down, there’s not much you can do to track your package. Since UPS doesn’t have a dedicated service tracking page, you can use third-party sites like Downdetector or Isitdownright now to check its server status.
Clear browser data
Corrupt files in your cache or otherwise can cause this error as well. Clear them out to see if you can get Chrome to work.
Step 1: Type in chrome://settings/clearBrowserData in your browser’s address bar and hit Enter.
Step 2: Select the cache and cookies options and make sure the Time range is set to All time. Click on the Clear now button to clear out all the data.
Restart your browser after this, and UPS tracking should load just fine.
Get in touch with UPS support
If nothing else works, your best bet is to get in touch with UPS support and find out what’s going on with your delivery. There are times when it might get held up in customs or somewhere in the shipping process due to a number of factors outside of anyone’s control and UPS will be able to tell you exactly what’s happening.
