Page breaks in Word are an essential part of document formatting. They let users terminate a page in the middle, allowing them to make well-formatted documents.

However, as important as page breaks are, they also can be a bit of a nuisance at times. In this article, we’re taking a look at how to remove page breaks in Word.

Removing manual page breaks is as easy as adding them. There are two methods to do this.

However, before we start removing Page Breaks, we first need to turn off the Track Changes setting.

Head over to the Review tab and click Track Changes, followed by Track Changes. Now turn the tracking off from the drop-down menu. Alternatively, you can use the Ctrl + Shift + E shortcut.

How to delete Page Breaks manually in Word?

Basically, all you have to do is enable non-printable marks in your document allowing you to see individual page breaks. You can then delete them using the Delete key.

Step 1: Open your Word document, head over to Home and click the Show/Hide button.

Step 2: Double-click to select a page break and press the Delete on your keyboard to remove the element.

Alternatively, instead of double-clicking, you can also place your cursor just before the page break and press the Delete button.


How to use Find and Replace to remove Page Breaks in Word?

Step 1: Open your document and press Ctrl + H to open the Find and Replace box.

How to remove Automatic Page Breaks in Word?

Word doesn’t allow users to remove automatic Page Breaks, but you can control their position so that they don’t land in awkward places inside your document. Here’s how.

Step 1: Select the paragraphs you want to change.

Step 2: Head over to the Home tab and click on Paragraph Settings under the Paragraph section.

Step 3: Select one of the below-listed options under the Line and Page Breaks tab.

  • Widow/Orphan: The last line of a paragraph at the top of a page is referred to as ‘widow’, while ‘orphan’ is the first line at the bottom of a page. Enabling this setting makes Word place at least two lines of a paragraph at the top or bottom of a page.
  • Keep with next: The option prevents breaking of the paragraphs that you want to keep together.
  • Keep lines together: This option prevents page breaks in the middle of paragraphs. 
  • Page break before: Adds a page break before a specific paragraph allowing you to show it on a new page.
