Microsoft has confirmed that Xbox One will soon be supporting mouse and keyboard. The feature is currently being enabled for select Xbox Insiders to test it out before rolling it out to all the Xbox One users worldwide.

Currently, the support for mouse and keyboard for Xbox One has been released to the developers and some of the Xbox Insider programme members.

Microsoft Xbox is partnering with Razer in order to ‘bring you the best possible mouse and keyboard experience for this new functionality’. But this doesn’t mean that only Razer keyboard and mice will be compatible with Xbox One.

The company has confirmed that most of the wired or wireless USB keyboards and mice will be compatible with Xbox One when the feature is released.

It’s also important to note that the support for mouse and keyboard hasn’t been enabled in all of the Xbox One game titles by default.

This support for developers to introduce keyboard and mouse support to their games is purely optional and the developer’s choice.

While some of the games might work well for keyboard/mouse and consoles alike, there are some games that might not. So, that’s why the decision to add keyboard and mouse support has been left to the developer’s discretion.

“We’re announcing a new way to play games on Xbox: we’re enabling mouse and keyboard support on Xbox One for select Xbox Insiders in the coming weeks,” Microsoft stated.

The compatibility of keyboard and mouse — primarily considered PC gaming accessories — has been a talking point in the gaming community for a long time and the overdue might be delivered soon to the Xbox community.

The company has also confirmed that one of the first titles that will be tested for mouse and keyboard compatibility by Xbox Insiders is Warframe.

Confirming Mike Ybarra’s statement at a panel discussion at PAX West last year in September — as reported here — Xbox One is enabling developers to start testing keyboards and mouse support and create best gaming experience on Xbox.

“We’ve been working closely with studios of all sizes to ensure mouse and keyboard experiences on the console are fun, fair and correctly balanced, and look forward to introducing more games with support for mouse and keyboard input in the future.”

The company will be announcing additional details pertaining to additional titles that will support keyboard/mouse and also about their partnership with Razer in November 2018.

This will also help settle numerous personal disputes between people who prefer to play on a console and on a keyboard, and mouse. If you wish to test out keyboard and mouse compatibility in the coming weeks, you can join the Xbox Insider program.
