YouTube not working on Roku: Quick Fix

There can be many reasons behind youtube not working on Roku. It can be an internet issue or some internal issue in the Roku streaming device, or the YouTube itself is down.

There is a disagreement between YouTube and Roku due to which Roku stopped supporting the YouTube TV channel on their devices. This can also be one of the reasons YouTube not working on your Roku device. It is, therefore, recommended not to remove the YouTube TV app while trying these fixes, as it might be possible you won’t be able to download the app again in the meantime.

This article will go through some fixes that you can apply to fix your YouTube not working issue on Roku streaming devices.


Check for Internet Availability

Check whether your device is connected to the Internet or not and if the internet speed is sufficient. Then, do a speed test and check the speed of your Internet connection.

Check whether you have good speed internet connection

If there are any Internet issues, solve them first and then see if YouTube works or not.

Is YouTube down?

Check if the YouTube app itself is down or not. Use your mobile phone or any other device to see if YouTube is up and running on your device. If youtube is not running on any other device, it may be possible that YouTube is down. In such a case, wait for YouTube to come back up again and then check on your Roku device.

Check for Software Update

Follow the steps given below to check if your Roku has any updates pending or not.

Step 1: On your Roku remote, press the Home button.

Step 2: Select Settings.

Step 3: Inside settings, select System.

Step 4: Select System update. Inside it, select the Check Now option to check for any updates available.


Restart your Roku

You can try restarting your Roku by following the given steps.

Step 1: Press the Home button on your Roku remote.

Step 2: Go inside the Settings and select System.

Step 3: Select the System restart. Inside it, select the Restart option.

You can also unplug your Roku, wait for five to ten minutes, and then plug it back in.


Change your Theme to the Roku Default 

Another fix to solve Youtube not working issue that you can try is to change your Roku theme to default.

Step 1: On your Roku remote, press the Home button.

Step 2: Go inside the Settings and select Theme.

Step 3: Select the Restore option to restore the default Roku theme.


Factory reset your Roku

You can factory reset your Roku by following the given set of steps.

Step 1: Press the Home button on your Roku remote, and go to Settings.

Step 2: Inside the Settings, select System.

Step 3: Select the Advanced system settings and select the Factory reset option.


Use Mirroring or access via YouTube TV via Youtube app

As a temporary solution, you can also try mirroring your mobile or computer screen to the Roku device and use YouTube through your device.

As mentioned above, there’s an issue between Google and Roku, and so the Youtube TV app is available inside the Youtube app. Look for the Go to YouTube TV option on the sidebar to the left, and you should be able to access Youtube TV.
