The recipe behind Snap Score

According to Snapchat, the Snap Score is a “super-secret, special equation that combines the number of Snaps you’ve sent and received, the Stories you’ve posted, and a couple of other factors.”

Since Snapchat is ambiguous about how to raise your Snap Score, it is assumed that a good regular usage of the app which includes:

  • Sending and receiving snaps
  • Adding friends and other contacts
  • Posting stories
  • Keeping Snap Streaks alive with your friends

Apparently, you can even receive bonus points in your Snap Score when you join Snapchat after a long hiatus. Consistently using your Snapchat app to send photos or videos and receive them is good for your Snap Score as well.

However, sending messages does not add to your Snap Score.

Even though just using the Snapchat app daily will increase your tally, sending messages is not counted as a factor behind increasing Snap Scores. Since Snapchat deletes user data which includes all unsaved messages and snaps every day, the amount of messages is not a fit criterion for keeping Snap Score, as the amount can vary on an everyday basis, from none to numerous.

Again, since Snap Streak is a valid parameter for measuring Snap Score, you cannot maintain a streak on the basis of messages alone. You are compelled to send a random image or video to keep the streak alive which will help your Snap Score to increase. Hence, no chats directly contribute to increasing the Snap Score.

How to find your Snap Score?

It is pretty easy to look for your Snap Score if you haven’t already, just follow the steps given as follows to view your Snap Score:

  • In your Snapchat app, head to your profile icon at the top-left corner of your screen.
  • Below your Snap Code, you will find your Snap Score with a mini-ghost icon and a number in front of it. Tap on this option.
  • Your Snap Score will appear.

When you add the number of snaps you have sent and the number of snaps received, then you will get your Snap Score. If the amount varies and the number shown is higher than the sum then there might be other factors that are being considered as highlighted in the section above.

Clearly, this does not include messages so you can only increase your Snap Score by sending and receiving snaps, adding new friends, maintaining streaks, and posting stories regularly.
