What personal data we collect and why?

Comments

When visitors leave comments on the site, we collect the data shown in the comments form and browser user agent string to help spam detection.

An anonymised string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment — Reader profiles are inactive as of now.

Media

If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS). Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.

Contact forms

Any information, including the contact form message, isn’t shared with anyone outside the company.

Cookies

If you leave a comment on our site, you may opt-in to save your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for a month.

If you have an account and log in to this site, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.

When you log in, we will also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. If you select “Remember Me”, your login will persist for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed.

An additional cookie will be saved in your browser if you edit or publish an article. This cookie includes no personal data and indicates merely the post ID of the article you just edited. It expires after a day.

Embedded content from other websites

Articles on this site may include embedded content, including videos and images. Embedded content from other websites behaves the same way as if the visitor has visited the other website. Candid.Technology also links to other websites to give readers more relevant information. We’re not responsible for the privacy practices of these websites and encourage the readers to check their privacy policy before engaging with their content.

These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.

Third-party vendors

Third-party vendors, including Ezoic, Google and Outbrain, will use cookies to serve ads based on a reader’s previous visits to the website. They may also be tracking you using targeted advertisement across Google properties, and this tracking may follow you to Candid.Technology as we use ads served by Google Adsense as one of our sources of revenue. Here’s our annual request summary (for CCPA).

Google’s use of Doubleclick cookies enables its partners to serve ads to readers based on their visit to Candid.Technology and other partner websites on the internet.

Readers can opt out of targeted advertising via Doubleclick cookies by visiting the Ads Settings.

You can read the privacy policies for Google Ad Exchange here and Google Ad Sense here.

You can also check out more information about digital advertising, including personalised ads, at resources such as Network Advertising Initiative and YourAdChoices.

Who we share your data with?

Any information collected by Candid.Technology (not including third parties like Google, Ezoic or Outbrain) is not shared with anybody, whosoever. We don’t sell or rent your personal data to any third party.

How long we retain your data

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is to automatically recognise and approve any follow-up comments instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

For users that register on our website (if any), we also store the personal information they provide in their user profiles. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also view and edit that information.

What rights do you have over your data?

If you have an account on this site or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

You can contact us here.

Where we send your data?

Visitor comments might be on occasion checked through an automated spam detection service. We try our best to scan through all the comments on the website ourselves so that no other third party can get access to your personal data.

Your contact information

If you choose to provide us with your contact information, including your email ID and phone number, we make it a point only to use the given information for appropriate tasks. None of your contact information leaves our hands; that is, it’s not shared with anyone whosoever outside of the company.

How do we protect your data?

We value you as our readers and swear to protect and defend your data as our own. Towards this end, we ensure that none of the information you provide to us is disclosed to a third party.

What third parties we receive data from?

We receive data from Google Analytics and an SEO tool that only helps us serve your reading choices better by improving on areas that aren’t doing as well. None of the data that we receive is personally identifiable.

We do not store any of your personal information unless you create an ID with us or are subscribed to our newsletter or notification updates, in which case we will have your email ID and IP address, respectively, until you continue using our services.

What automated decision-making and profiling we do with user data?

None.
