Google Docs streamlines documentation online as users are not only able to create documents but also share and edit them online — including Word files. They can also leave comments, making it easier for the author to revise the piece. All of this has made it even more popular since Google Docs is a free alternative to other popular tools like Microsoft Word. Google Docs is expanding its reach with the growing number of Gmail as well as Gsuite users and has been getting ready to challenge Microsoft’s Word — though only in the online world.
Here we’re going to explain how to implement double spacing in Google Docs via PC or your smartphone app.

How to double space in Google Docs on PC?
- From the toolbar at the top, tap on the double-space icon (as shown in the screenshot above.
- From the drop-down menu, tap on Double.
If you’ve already written your document, highlight the entire thing (Ctrl+A) and then continue with the steps above.
How to double space in Google Docs app on a smartphone?
- Open your document in the Google Docs app for iOS or Android; Look for the symbol with an uppercase ‘A’ in the toolbar at the top and tap on it.
- A menu will appear in the bottom half of the screen.
- Tap on Paragraph.
- At the bottom, look for Line spacing
- Increase the number to 2 to double space in Google Docs.
