A hacker going by the alias ‘Shooked’ has leaked the personal details of over 180,000 Esport North Africa (ESNA) users just one day before a major regional esports tournament is set to kick off in Morocco. The breach involved a 3 GB data dump on Breach Forums.
According to Hackread.com, the breach comprises more than nine million lines of information. After filtering out duplicate entries, the data set contained 180,000 unique user records.
The leaked data contained user IDs, usernames, IP addresses, email addresses, session IDs, timestamps, and WordPress URLs linked to accounts.
Although no passwords or financial information were compromised in the breach, the leaked data is still highly concerning. Cybercriminals could misuse sensitive details like email addresses and IP addresses for phishing schemes or other forms of malicious activity.
‘Shooked’ claimed on Breach Forums that the leak represents the platform’s “full database,” suggesting that all ESNA users have potentially been affected. This is particularly troubling, given the platform’s popularity and its significant role in promoting esports in a region.
Researchers have advised users with accounts on the ESNA platform to take immediate action. While passwords were not compromised, users should change their passwords as a precautionary measure.
Additionally, users should be on high alert for phishing attempts, specifically social engineering tactics. Experts have also recommended that users verify any communication and not divulge their details to any unknown person, either on the internet, via SMS or call.
Breach Forums is a cyber criminal hub that was shut down in 2023 after the arrest of its admin. However, a year later, the platform is back online and is now being run by ShinyHunters.
Last month, over 10,000 employee records of Dell were released on Breach Forums. Similarly, data of more than 390 million VK users, a prominent Russian social media platform, appeared on a hacking forum.
