A lot of telecom providers also offer additional services like internet or TV. Verizon, one of the largest US carriers offers a TV service called Fios that comes with its own streaming set-top box and remote. Now while these services usually work well, the occasional bug or glitch is nothing new.
In this article, we’re talking about Fios remotes not working, the reasons why and what you can do to fix the problem.
What causes this problem?
There are a number of reasons why your Fios remote might not work as expected. Some common reasons include.
- Low or dead batteries.
- Pairing issues with the set-top box.
- The remote is out of range.
- Interference from other devices.

How to fix this?
Here are six fixes you can try out.
Try changing the battery
Perhaps the most popular reason why remotes start malfunctioning is that their battery levels dip too low. This is true for both rechargeable and battery-operated remotes.

So if you find your remote unresponsive or very laggy, the first thing you should do is try and charge the remote or replace the batteries, depending upon what kind of remote you have.
Check for a blocked signal
TV remotes use IR signals that require a clear line of sight between the remote and the device it’s operating. If there’s something like a wall or a piece of furniture between the TV and the remote, the remote isn’t going to work. Check to see if there are any obstructions in between and that you’re in the remote’s recommended range. If you’re too far away, the remote won’t work either.
Power cycle your TV
Power cycling your TV can also fix connection issues between the remote and the TV. All you have to do is turn off your TV, unplug it from the wall for 50 seconds and then plug it back in again. Once plugged in, press and hold the power button on the TV for 30 seconds. This will drain any residual charge from the TV and soft reset it in the process. Restart the TV now and check to see if the remote works.

Check connections
Now is also a good time to check any connections to and from your set-top box. Check to see if it’s getting the required amount of power to function properly and if any incoming signal or outbound HDMI connections are properly working. If there is any damage on any cables, get them replaced and ensure everything is in place before trying again.
Pairing issues
Pairing issues with the set-top box are one of the major reasons why your remote might malfunction. Based on the exact model of your remote, the pairing procedure might be different.
For Fios TV Voice Remote
Point the remote towards the TV you want to pair with and press and hold the play/pause and ‘O’ buttons at the same time until the light on the remote flashes blue.
Once the light stops flashing, your remote is paired and ready to go. It should automatically detect any TVs and audio systems connected to the set-top box.
For P265 Remotes
Step 1: Press and hold the OK and FiOS TV buttons at the same time until the remote light blinks red twice and stays red.
Step 2: Press and release the Play/Pause button until the remote finds the right code and shuts off the TV.
