Google unveiled Bard, an experimental conversational AI service based on its Language Model for Dialogue Applications (LaMDA) platform. Currently, Bard is open to testers, and Google is likely to scale the technology to a wider range of audience in the future.
Bard is one of the many AI technologies that Google has built for its Search. Before Bard, Google launched BERT and MUM, both revolutionised the search process to give more accurate and personal results.
“Bard seeks to combine the breadth of the world’s knowledge with the power, intelligence and creativity of our large language models. It draws on information from the web to provide fresh, high-quality responses,” said Sundar Pichai, announcing Bard Google AI on Monday.
People are using Google not only to find quick, factual answers but also to gain deeper insights and understanding of the topic. AI helps decode these questions and provide answers even when there is no right answer. With the integration of Bard into the Search, people can get a distilled picture of complex topics in an easy-to-digest format so that they can easily learn the topic and understand the big picture.
Google is also planning to release a suite of tools for creators, developers and enterprises to help them to build more innovative products with its Generative Language API.
Bard can be seen as a direct competitor to Microsoft-backed ChatGPT, which has taken the tech world by storm. Other companies like Baidu have already announced their own version of AI-powered chatbots, and it seems like Google isn’t far behind.
As of now, Google hasn’t disclosed what Bard can do or when it is planning to launch it in the market. “We’ll continue to be bold with innovation and responsible in our approach. And it’s just the beginning — more to come in all of these areas in the weeks and months ahead,” hinted Pichai.
