HBO has partnered with Snapchat to bring selected full episodes from HBO Max’s programming to Snap Minis, which can be watched by 64 people together on iOS and Android in USA.

Snap Minis is Snapchats platform for shared experiences, and their collaboration with HBO brings HBO Max Mini, which won’t require any additional installation and can be accessed inside the Snapchat app.

People on Snapchat can access watch groups through the rocket icon within Chat or Search. They can join others viewing an episode, chat with them and react with Bitmojis while viewing together. Some episodes might also be age-restricted.

Viewers will be able to invite up to 63 other snap chatters using an in-chat link to join the Mini or a clickable sticker link with the show’s image.

At the time of the launch, HBO Max Mini on Snapchat will include Season 1/Episode 1 of Craftopia, Euphoria, The Flight Attendant, Game of Thrones, Genera+ion, Gossip Girl (Max original from 2021), Looney Tunes, Love Life, Lovecraft Country, Selena + Chef, Titans, Warrior and World of Calm, and Season 2/Episode 1 of Betty.

“We believe humans value recommendations that come from other humans, so having the opportunity for friends to suggest, and then subsequently watch content together paves the way for more meaningful discovery,” said Sarah Lyons, EVP, DTC Global Product Management, HBO Max.

The playback will be synced across devices, and those 18 years or older will see a prompt to subscribe to HBO Max after an episode ends.

“Snap Minis offer an exciting new way for HBO Max to create social experiences for fans of its programming, complementing our incredible Snap Originals and partnered content available on Discover,” said Alston Cheek, Director of Platform Partnerships at Snap, Inc. “We’re excited to partner with HBO Max to offer our community an innovative co-viewing experience inside of Snapchat.”
