Google Home is by far one of the most popular navigation apps on the planet. Apart from giving you navigation directions for just about any type of commute from any vehicle, the app also shows live traffic to let users know ahead of time whether or not they’ll face issues on their commute.

Check traffic to work using the app

Follow these steps to check the traffic on your route along your commute.

  • Open the Google Maps app and type your work address.
  • Tap on Directions. 
  • You’ll see your route to work highlighted in three colours, indicating traffic.
    • Blue: Indicates open roads, no traffic.
    • Yellow: Indicates moderate traffic.
    • Red: Indicates heavy traffic or congestion. 

Using these traffic indicators, you can find an alternative way to work or plan your commute better ahead of time. 


How to save work location on Google Maps?

Google Maps has the option of saving frequently visited addresses. Here’s how you can save your work location.

  • Open Google Maps and search for Work. 
  • Tap on Add.
  • Type your work address or point it on the map, and you’re good.

Check traffic to work using the browser

If you’re using Google Maps from your web browser, the interface may be slightly different, but it works the same way. 

Step 1: Open Google Maps and type your work commute. If you’ve got your work address saved, type work.

Step 2: Click on Directions.

Step 3: You’ll see your route to work highlighted in three colours, indicating traffic.

  • Blue: Indicates open roads, no traffic.
