Instagram’s popularity in the business and fashion industry has been driving brands to associate themselves different influencers and promoting their products so that they can target a more engaging audience. One of the most important things for a successful promotion is adding links to the products in their stories and posts. Many influencers even promote their content from other social networking sites so that they get increased engagement on their content.

For example, if there is a Youtuber who just uploaded a new video on his/her Youtube channel, it would be a great way to inform people about that by putting up a story on Instagram and linking the video to the story. This would not only increase the chances of getting more views on the video but will also help your content reach new people.

Adding a link to a story

This feature is exclusively available for Instagram accounts that have more than 10,000 followers. To link a URL to the story, you can use the ‘Link’ button and paste or type the URL in the dialogue box that shows up. Your followers can visit the link by swiping up while viewing your story.

To add a link to your story, follow the steps given below.

  • Open the story.
  • Click on the link option as shown in the screenshot above.
  • On the window, tap on the Web Link option and add the link.

Adding a link to a post

You cannot add a link to a post directly. You can simply paste or type the URL in the caption, and your followers might type that URL in their web browser and open the link. Instagram does not allow the users to add a link to a post until you want to promote it, and when you do, it will enable you to guide people to your profile, DM, and website or any other link directly using the promotions.

To upload a link to the post, follow the steps given below.

  • Open the post in your Instagram account.
  • Click on Promote option.
  • Now, select where you want to promote the post — On your profile, On your website or as a direct message.
  • Then, type the URL in the box.

Note: Instagram allows promotions only for Business/Creator accounts. If you choose the website option, you will be able to type in the URL in the box (see the screenshot above). The other two options take the user to the profile or direct message as the names suggest.

There are various platforms like Campsite and Metricool, where you can log in using Instagram credentials. These platforms provide thumbnails which would be linked to your Instagram posts.
