Google confirms October rollout for Android 15 on Pixel devices

Google has subtly confirmed that the much-anticipated Android 15 update for Pixel devices will be delayed until October. The delay appears to stem from Google’s efforts to enhance the stability of the new operating system, which has undergone extensive beta testing.

The company had previously remained tight-lipped about the exact release date, refusing to comment on earlier reports. However, recent changes to the release notes for the Android Beta Exit update now explicitly state that users should expect Android 15 to be available in October, reports Android Authority.

This message advises users who have opted out of the beta program to “ignore [the downgrade] OTA until Android 15 is available in October.”

This unexpected update is an essential guide for users who might have been confused by the absence of a stable update following their exit from the beta program.

Google’s clear, albeit quiet, communication now sets expectations for the October rollout, giving users a timeline to manage their devices until the update is officially released.

The Android 15 stable update is expected to roll out across a broad range of Pixel devices, including:

  • Google Pixel 6, 6 Pro, 6a
  • Google Pixel 7, 7 Pro, 7a
  • Google Pixel Tablet
  • Google Pixel Fold
  • Google Pixel 8, 8 Pro, 8a
  • Google Pixel 9, 9 Pro, 9 Pro XL, 9 Pro Fold

While the exact date in October remains unclear, speculation suggests that the update could arrive mid-month, though users and developers alike are eager for an official confirmation.

Meanwhile, developers can look forward to accessing the Android 15 source code as early as next week.

Google rolled out Android 15 Beta 3 for Pixel devices in June 2024 bringing in improved user experience and a Credential Manager. Using Credential Manager, users can sign in using a passkey easily.
