Bitmojis are a great way to express yourself on just about any messaging app. The app lets you create avatars with over 40 skin tones, almost 50 hair treatments, colours, apparel and accessories to deck out your digital avatar.
If you’re feeling lazy, you can take a selfie, and the app will automatically create an avatar for you. While this may be hit or miss, it does give you a good starting point for your digital persona.
However, if you’ve made a Bitmoji from scratch and got the gender wrong by ay chance, changing it back can be a bit of a task. You see, once you’re done making your avatar and lock it in, all you can change is its appearance.
You can change things like the skin colour, eyebrows, mouth shape and other crucial features, but changing the gender will require you to reset your avatar and build it again from scratch.

Changing your Bitmoji’s gender
Follow these steps to reset your bitmoji and start building it again with the right gender this time around.

- Open the Bitmoji app and tap on the Settings icon in the top-right.
- Tap on My Data.
- Tap Reset Avatar to delete your avatar.
Now the next time you start building your avatar again, you’ll be asked for the gender right at the beginning. Make sure you chose the right gender and then continue customising it from there.
While it may seem like a task, rebuilding your entire Bitmoji all over again, it’s really not that difficult or lengthy a process. Snapchat has put in a lot of work in the app ever since it acquired the app back in 2016 for around $100 million.
Back then, the app was called Bitstrips and was quite limited in its scope and avatar customisation abilities. However, in the five years following the acquisition, Snapchat has greatly improved and evolved the app into what it is today.
