Chitika boasts of a publisher network of over 350,000 members, which serve four billion targeted ads per month, but all of this is coming to an end as Chitika is shutting down its operation on April 30, 2019.

Endorsed by Yahoo! in March 2010 when YPNO (Yahoo! Publisher Network Online) was closed, Chitika has been in the business for more than 15 years. In addition to Yahoo!, SuperMedia and HomeAdvisor were two of the most prominent advertising partners on the network.

The Natick (Massachusetts)-based online advertising network, which was dubbed as the “preferred referrer ad network for small-to-midsize publishers” by Yahoo! is now shutting down and will affect a revenue stream of more than a quarter million publishers worldwide.

“After 15+ years in business and millions of publisher relationships, Chitika is hereby shutting down. Our sincere thanks to all our publishers with whom we have enjoyed wonderful relationships over the years. We wish you the best of luck and success as you continue to grow your traffic and revenue,” the company stated.

What do Chitika publishers need to do?

Chitika shuts down operations: How to get your accumulated earnings? If you’re a publisher with Chitika, this might come as bad news to you, but you’ll need to stop running ad codes from the network on your website on or before April 30, 2019, post which Chitika will cease to operate, and all the ad codes will stop working.

No earnings that were accumulated after March 1, 2019, will be processed by the company. Chitika has fallen out of favour with one of their biggest exchange partner and all the publisher earnings on the network has been returned to the advertisers because the company has been ‘chargebacked by the exchange’.

Chitika will not process any payments for accounts that do not meet the $10 payment threshold. If your account earnings are more than $10, read on to know how to receive your payment from Chitika.

How to receive the final payment from Chitika?

If you’ve accumulated earnings that are more than the payment threshold of $10, Chitika will be sending you the amount on April 30, 2019. To make sure that your accumulated earnings are sent, take note of the following steps:

  • Sign into your Chitika account and check out the ‘Requirements‘ section and fix the issues listed there (if any).
  • Once that’s done, click on Account in the navigation bar and then click on User Settings.
  • Find and click on Cancel Account; review the information and select a reason for cancellation from the dropdown menu.
  • Click on the ‘checkbox’, which confirms that you’ve understood and agreed to Chitika’s terms and conditions.
  • Click on Cancel Account

Following this, a confirmation email will be sent to you by Chitika, and you can expect your payment to be processed on April 30, 2019 — as the company suggest.

Those who wish to save report data will need to download them in CSV format before cancelling their account. If you’ve any additional questions for Chitika, click here to contact the company.

What if you haven’t crossed the $10 threshold?

If you haven’t crossed the $10 threshold, Chitika won’t be processing your pending earnings. You’ll need to select a checkbox which says that “you understand that you will not be paid any outstanding earnings”, and then select the reason for cancelling from the drop-down list. Next, you’ll need to click on the Cancel Account button, and a confirmation email will be sent to you.
